My father started out in this business back in 1970. He opened up a storefront with a retail operation in the front and a drapery and upholstery workroom in the back.
As a child, I would go to work with him on Saturday's. My duties included organizing the sample books, dusting the sample books, picking up pins with a magnet in the workroom, and overall cleaning up the shop. I received $5 per week for performing these duties. I couldn't wait until Saturday because I was able to spend time with my dad and I got paid for it.
My job never not seem like work because I truly loved going through the sample books and picking out fabric that I was going to decorate my home with. That is where my passion and love for the drapery and upholstery business started.
When I was old enough to work, I would go on sales calls with my dad. It was then that I discovered how much I enjoyed people, the creativity and satisfaction of decorating, and sales.
Writing this brings back some great memories. In 1991, the business was turned over to me, which brings me to where I am today.
